A new Federal law goes into effect tomorrow that recyclers of automobiles need to know about. Starting March 31, 2009, recyclers will be required to report the vehicle identification numbers of each and every automobile they crush, shred, part-out or otherwise destroy to the Federal Government.
Recyclers in some states will be exempted as their State government reporting requirement already has them covered but in states that refuse to report to the Feds and states which have no reporting requirements whatsoever, the person(s) who destroy junk or totaled cars will be forced to make the reports themselves.
