Recycling requires energy and the harvesting of energy depletes the planet of natural resources. As a matter of fact: depending on the commodity being recycled and the current market price for that commodity, energy will rank 1, 2 or 3 in costs to recyclers with labor (human energy) and the actual cost paid for the commodity filling the other 2 slots. In the case of RecycleBill's day job this energy is in the form of diesel fuel, in others electricity is the form of energy most used.
Therefore, recycling contributes to America's dependance on foreign oil and increases the amount of pollution that is spewed into the environment.
